In 1812, a frenchman named Olivier Nouvelle crossed the Atlantic to escape the Napoleonic Wars with his family and founded an academy for 'underprivelged youths' in a small town in North Carolina. In 1921, the academy was refurbished and has since catered to the educational needs of Highview.
But not all is well. Over twenty years ago, the school governors decided that, to cure their budget problems, the school would work on a system equivalent to the stock exchange. One man purchased 70% of the school. He died of cancer in 2008, and in August '09, the inheritor of said shares returned and is now living in Highview. His intentions are unknown-and some people think that is perhaps better if he is not given a chance to make them known-but then, David Alain does not make a great effort to be likeable, seeing himself as above the 'backwater bumpkins' of Highview.
The shopkeepers of Old High Street are a dying breed. The elderly do not spend much, and the young ones are always going out to the Grovesnor Mall to spend their cash. So, in a gambit to save themselves, the storeholders have to bend the rules to be able to survive, and, while some simply look for loopholes in the regulations, others send those still young enough to 'acquire' stock from the warehouses.
Highview has never been home to anyone sucsessful; except for one Lukas Schweinsteiger. Born in Germany, he has a career playing for FC Bayern Munchen, in Germany, and his girlfriend, Lindsay Marie Kaller, is able to enjoy the trappings of wealth. Then again, he is only back every second week, and not for long, and since Lindsay owns a large quantity of cash, it would be hard to envisage her not being a subject of interest.
No town is complete without some sort of crime, but this is a particularly surprising little nugget of information; the Golovnins are paying the local police force to look the other way to some suspicous dealings. Dostya Golovnin, attending Highview County Highschool, is totally unaware of this, and those who discover their buisness ventures regularly end up dead, hence why Richard Eccleston is in a wheelchair. Not all that long ago, he was the captain of the school's Badminton side, and the squeak of wheels serve as a warning not to mess with the Golovnins. Unfortunately, his friends are not aware of this, but they do know that they cannot hurt Yaroslav Golovnin himself-so they will hurt his daughter, Dostya.
New teachers are always a subject of discussion. But Mrs.Neilsen, the new Norwegian History teacher, is more than liberal with her relationship choice, and there are rumours she lost her last job because she was having it off with the head of the student council. Of course, rumours are always grounded in truth, and she was recently seen in a cafe with Headmistress de Normandie.
